From growing up watching Animal Planet after school - specifically Pit Bulls & Parolees, dreaming of one day having my own rescue, rehabilitating the misunderstood.
Fast forward to 2022, when I landed my first job in the industry at a grooming salon. It wasn’t exactly what I was interested in, but it was the first step in the right direction, and a start nonetheless!
Next came the animal attendant role. Driving from Wollongong to Campbelltown every morning wasn’t easy, but the experience I gained made it worthwhile. This was where I really began to learn about dogs and their language.
Then, my second animal attendant role. Here I learnt more about how dogs communicate with one another, the subtle details. And puppies, the importance of starting early and how they learn and develop.
And then, you guessed it… my third animal attendant role.
This is where I met Lu. A very special pup who quickly became one of my favourite faces I looked forward to seeing every day.
Unfortunately, due to others concerns, I had to say goodbye to Lulu.
That experience is what I learnt from, from there. I knew that Lu was a great dog beyond her challenges, and how important it is to understand the dog behind the behaviour.
Then early this year, I had the opportunity to learn about dog training and behaviour modification. I had the foundation, knowledge and experience, and was able to build on all of that, and learn how to actively work with and help dogs through their challenges.
Which brings me to now… starting Ash n K9’s
A business built on my passion for helping dogs, like the ones from the show, the ones from the shelters, the ones like Lu — the dogs who just need a lil extra.
— Ash :)
